Learning lessons on the other side of the world

I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to take classes at The Australian Film & Television Academy in February.  I had a fantastic workshop with Australian television director Geoffrey Bennett and participated in voice and movement classes with the full full-time students. It was so much fun to get back into a learning environment and I realized how much I have taken my training for granted.

We all get caught up in the day to day task of life and it is so easy to put off opportunities for growth. Growth in our relationships, our health, our careers. We feel like we know what we need to know and there is no time to spare in our busy lives to push ourselves beyond our boundaries.

That has been my story for a while, I have not pushed myself to find opportunities to grow in my craft as an actor. I have relied on the tried and true; never really pushing those boundaries. Those classes and opportunities I had in Australia are reminders that we always need to grow and we can find creative ways to expand our knowledge and capacity.

It’s not every day that one gets an opportunity to go to the other side of the world to work on their career but by searching for ways to move forward, even if the movement is slow or in small increments, we all can build upon our knowledge and create opportunities for growth.
