Navigating a Two-Handed World...Single-handedly

A Little Potato and Hard to Peel

A School Assembly and Author Visit for Grades 3-5

This interactive solo play follows David’s journey from birth through young adulthood, covering his experience growing up one-handed, competing in athletics, navigating elementary school, and ultimately finding his voice as a performer and storyteller. The program is interactive, humorous, and deeply honest. It is directly tied to David’s award-winning novel of the same name, making it a natural fit for author visits, literacy programs, and One Book One School initiatives. Schools can pair a book order with the assembly visit for a complete literacy experience.

The Three A’s

Acceptance:  Accept your reality honestly, not gracefully.
Adapting: Find the way through, even when no one shows you how.
Action:  Move forward, even in fear, even with no guarantees.

What Students Learn

  • Our circumstances do not define us, we define them
  • Perseverance is a daily decision, not a talent
  • Being different is not a limitation, it is a distinction
  • Standing up for others matters, even when it’s not easy
  • Your story is worth telling
